Dr. Jeffery K. Butts Named Next Executive Director of IAPSS

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents (IAPSS) is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Jeffrey K. Butts as its next Executive Director, effective Monday, January 5, 2026. Dr. Butts will succeed current Executive Director Dr. Robert Taylor, who will retire following a distinguished tenure of service.

Dr. Butts will conclude his role as Superintendent of the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township after 15 years in the position and over 30 years of service in public education. A nationally respected leader, his career has been defined by innovation, student-centered reform, and a deep commitment to strengthening educational opportunity for all.

“I am honored to serve as the 12th Executive Director of IAPSS in this next chapter,” said Dr. Butts. “Supporting the success of superintendents has never been more important. I look forward to continuing the association’s legacy of strong advocacy, customized professional development, and a shared commitment to educational leadership across Indiana.”

An active IAPSS member for many years, Dr. Butts has held numerous leadership roles within the association, including President, Chair of the Policies and Resolutions Committee, and District V Chair. He has also served as a facilitator, mentor, and Executive Coach for IAPSS signature programs, including EPIC (Educators Preparing Inspired Change), the Indiana Aspiring Superintendent Academy, and the ExCo Executive Coaching program, positively impacting hundreds of Indiana educational leaders. Additionally, Dr. Butts received the Indiana Superintendent of the Year Award in 2019 and was named a runner-up for the AASA National Superintendent of the Year program.

“IAPSS is proud to welcome Dr. Butts into this role,” said IAPSS President-Elect Dr. Dan Hile, who led the search on behalf of the association. “He is a proven leader with a passion for public education and superintendent development that will support Indiana’s public school districts—and the students, families, and communities they serve—with excellence and purpose.”

With Dr. Butts at the helm, IAPSS will continue its mission to provide a strong network of support for Hoosier superintendents.
