Students in a lab

From the desk of the Executive Director

Welcome to the new web page for the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents! We began discussing a tech partnership with web designer PowerIT at the AASA Conference on Education, and are very pleased to introduce you to the first tier of results from that discussion in the exhibit hall.

Thanks to Jim Freeland for reviewing and working with a variety of electronic newsletter designs to arrive at what you see today. Jim, in his new part-time role with IAPSS, has taken on the newsletter, and is very interested to hear what you think. As we have discussed content, one item we hope to provide you is up-to-date information about your colleagues. We both remember, as do a select few of you, the section in Charlie Fields “Postscripts” that we always read first was the update on who was changing jobs, retiring, or entering the superintendence.

Successful schools create best practices, and the best of the best are those which can be replicated in other settings and result in improved student performance, lower drop-out rates, and increased graduation rates. IAPSS wants to hear from districts about such programming. A key to a successful website should be that when you visit, you will have the opportunity to explore something you may not have thought of before you checked in. We want those great ideas recognized, shared, and implemented.

IAPSS will be using links that we hope you find valuable. Through a new partnership between our association and Educational Research Service, we will bring you the latest research on topics that impact every school district. We are in negotiations with three web-based professional development providers to bring professional development opportunities to your computer desktop, available on your time schedule. IAPSS is also developing podcasts that will be easily updatable through iTunes. Soon, we will be able to do surveys through our web page, as well as allow you to register for meetings via the site.

Jim Freeland is working to develop interactive professional development opportunities for non-superintendent central office administrators. He began last April to form the Central Office Administrators Professional Development Committee.

It has been non-stop since last January with new legislative committees, IDOE initiatives, and policy changes arising almost weekly. We hope that you will keep up with updates on this web page. Welcome, and as always, thanks for your service to the children of Indiana.
