 RE:                  2008-2009 ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP, IAPSS

Please consider this your invitation to join the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents.  As you well know, the challenges facing public education are significant and it is only by working together that we can achieve the success necessary to provide the best educational opportunities for all students.  Your membership in IAPSS can provide a strong voice on behalf of students and public education by joining with other educational leaders to create the needed impact.

This past year, IAPSS continued its focus on in-service training that was designed to meet the expressed needs of school leaders.  We collected input during the 2008 Spring District meetings to design the 2008-2009 programs.   Through an assessment to Institutional Members, the personnel of a school district can access CRU credit for nearly all IAPSS meetings and sessions.   CRU credit is available to school districts whose leaders are Active IAPSS members through a session facilitation fee.  If your superintendent is an Institutional member, there is no facilitation cost to you for the CRU credits.

As an Associate Member, you will be eligible to attend all IAPSS meetings, seminars and in-service sessions.   The Professional Development Committee and other planning committees will continue to offer what we believe is the very best in-service sessions possible.  Many of our associate members were also able to participate in the Hallmarks of Excellence in Leadership program at no cost to the member.  IAPSS is also interested in offering professional development activities solely for the Associate Members, many of whom must stay home to “guard the fort” when the superintendent is attending sessions.

Please complete the data portion at the top of the membership application form along with the section for Associate Member dues and return as soon as possible.  If you work in a school district, we will enter the legislative district information when we receive your application.  Please also note that the format has been updated.  Due to new requirements from the Division of Professional Standards, in order to track and credit CRU’s we now need your date of birth and the last 4 digits of your social security number.

Thank you for your interest in IAPSS.  The Indiana Commission on Government Reform (Kernan/Shepard Commission) is already being touted as the focus for the 2009 Indiana General Assembly, the Governor having proclaimed that he agrees with all recommendations from the committee, including all four that impact schools.  We value the collective strength of school leaders committed to the improvement of public education.  In this time of significant opportunity and challenge, please consider membership in IAPSS as an important means of meeting the challenges before us.  Our associate members bring to the organization a wealth of highly specialized skills, which all school leaders need to call upon to be successful.  As an organization, we look forward to benefiting from such expertise.
